A Day in Hong Kong

Above: A view of the Hong Kong city skyline from Kowloon.

We left the Philippines on an early morning flight for Hong Kong, which meant we got up at 3:30 am to pack and travel to the airport. The flight was only a couple of hours, so we arrived in Hong Kong around 8:30 am. We went straight to the hotel and dropped our luggage. Then we made a plan to see all we could of Hong Kong in one day.

The first stop was the Hong Kong Museum of History. It is always helpful to spend time learning the history and culture of the place you are visiting. Next was a ferry ride across Victoria Harbor to the island of Hong Kong. We made our way from the ferry up to the cable car that took us to the top of Victoria’s Peak for a view of Hong Kong from above. No matter how many times we look down on a city or the land below it is always amazing to see.

After traveling down from Victoria’s Peak, we made our way back across the harbor to Kowloon where our hotel was. We quickly checked into our room then headed back to the harbor to watch the light show. It is fun to watch how the city lights up at night. After the light show we walked up to the night market. The kids were not very excited about more walking. We probably got close to three or four days’ worth of walking in one day. Once we reached the market they livened up a bit. They got to figure out how do to some haggling as they purchased their treasures. After the shopping was completed we headed back to the hotel. It was about 11:00 by the time we got in bed. There would be some sleepy people on the flight the next morning to Sapporo, Japan.
